2023 is the 30th anniversary of Art Bias! Since 1993 Art Bias has empowered artists on the Peninsula by providing them with the tools and resources they need to thrive, in turn adding vibrancy and creating positive social change in our community.

Examples of our free programs include:

  • Youth Mentorship program pairs youth from Sequoia High School with professional visual artists at Art Bias. The program strengthens the creative confidence of youth while introducing them to a diverse and supportive creative community through 40 two-hour sessions throughout the year.

  • First Sundays Open Studios brings our community together to experience meeting artists at work in their studios, share their creative process, and engage in conversation and live demonstrations. Every month is unique with an ever-evolving list of musicians, pop up vendors, and hands on art activities.

  • Hands on art workshops at community festivals and fairs. Just last month, Art Bias teaching artists participated in the Countywide Celebration of the Arts where dozens of youth and adults tried their hands at Chinese Brush Painting with an Art Bias instructor.

  • Exhibitions by local artists and partner nonprofits in Studio 114. The exhibitions engage meaningfully with important topics such as the arts and healing, the environment, the need for affordable housing, and much more, with local artists and partner nonprofit organizations.

  • A variety of art classes for seniors at HIP Housing residences. Art Bias takes these classes directly to seniors to provide socialization with their peers, mental stimulation, and a fun, creative outlet.

Artist Spotlights

Natalie Ciccoricco—Art Bias studio artist

“I joined Art Bias as I needed a space to work on large scale commissions. Since I joined, I have been able to take on bigger projects, which has allowed me to make the shift towards making art full time. Since joining Art Bias in 2021, I have enjoyed participating in artist events such as the First Sundays Open Studios, where I get to share my art with local art lovers. I value being part of this wonderful community of artists who share their knowledge and experiences in the art world with each other.”  —Natalie

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Natalie Ciccoricco grew up a self-taught artist. While in college, her mother gifted her a bag of vintage embroidery thread that would sow the seeds of the next ten years of Natalie’s creative career. Guided by patterns from the natural world, Natalie experiments by combining organic materials and geometric shapes, using her threads to weave rocks or sticks together with paper and ink. Her work now shows in galleries across the United States, in art magazines and blogs, and even on the big screen in tv and movie sets.

Yunan Ma—Art Bias studio artist

“I was working from home for a couple of years as a full time fiber artist. I had a lot of freedom, but I always got distracted in the daytime and ended up working really late in the evening. Working alone also kept myself away from many opportunities in the community. After I started working in my studio at Art Bias, I received many exhibition and competition opportunities shared in the community. I was able to open up myself and share about my work to other artists and visitors. Working at the studio also allowed me to come to a place completely belonging to myself where I can let my creativity fully burst and shine.” —Yunan

Born in China, Yunan Ma moved to the US at the age of seventeen to pursue her education in Fashion at Savannah College of Art and Design. Following her graduation, she began working with a company creating leather handbags, introducing her to the world of fiber, knitting, and weaving. She has continued to pursue this interest since, achieving her MFA in Knitwear design, showing her work on the runway, and even delving into what fiber could do on the fine art plane. Her work explores the complex universe inside of every life. Within each piece, no matter how big or small, there is memory, energy, and ultimately joy.

Shari Bryant—Art Bias studio artist

“Art Bias has given me a renewed sense of community -- something I haven't felt in years. Working alongside my fellow artists has supercharged my creativity, opened the door to more opportunities, and helped push my artistic career forward.”  —Shari

Shari Bryant began her journey into the fine arts in college, graduating from the University of Florida with a Studio Art degree. For a period after her schooling, she continued to experiment with creative work in caricature and portraiture, and game design and publishing. Now, after twenty years in tech, she has returned to explore the artistic influences from her early career.  Shari is currently pursuing her MFA in Illustration at the Academy of Art University. Her work uses charcoal and pastel to create realistic and fantastical portraiture. This includes her ongoing series Meladies, which examines the portrayal of black women in fantasy and media.

Neil Murphy—Art Bias studio artist

“I have found, along with the glowing creativity and variety of media one finds at Art Bias, there is a colorful elephant in the room! It laughs with us, pushes us into a community of encouraging friends, nudges us to explore new creative modes, and trumpets that this is a place to find personal meaning in art. And, of course, gather often to enjoy the crazy 'humans.”  —Neil

Born and raised in Hawaii, Neil's creative influences stem from a combination of Polynesian and Asian art from his childhood, and his tech career in graphic and sound design. The fusion of these inspirations has given Neil an unusual process that moves between traditional painting and digital media. The result is something technical and whimsical, allowing him to express his interests in neuroscience and mental health. Some pieces take a scientific approach to depicting the microscopic processes in our brains, others use strange beasties and impossible maps to depict the more emotional side.

Michael Endicott—AB studio artist

“I love having my studio at Art Bias for the interaction with 45+ other artists in other media types. It stimulates my imagination and stretches my boundaries. Direct collaborations are exploring characteristics of light, textures and layers. I am impressed by the direct involvement of the AB board in promoting public awareness of the arts like First Sunday Open Studios and helping us stay directly involved in local community events in our area.“  —Michael

Michael Endicott is a Fine Art Photographer. His cellular tapestries connect our micro and macro entwinements with our surroundings that give shape and life to our world. Currently, he is exploring abstract realism and surreal realism. His process in the digital darkroom is “sculptural” in nature, bending wavelengths of light, and molding multiple shots into one. Recently he has been exhibited in the DeYoung Museum, (San Francisco, Ca), Gallery House (Palo Alto, Ca) Mid-Peninsula Media Center (Palo Alto, Ca) and Quantum Leap (Mission Bay, San Francisco).
