Activities

12:00 - 4:00 - Free hands-on mosaic art activities for youth, led by Pettina Velez.

1:00 - 3:00 - Opening reception for Elements of Contemporary Mosaics, Studio 114. This exhibition showcases the evolving language of mosaic art through 2D and small 3D pieces, highlighting its versatility in material, form and concept. Aimee Shapiro, Executive Director of the San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture, served as the juror.

3:00 - 4:00 - in Studio #111: Join mosaic artist Angela Sanders for a live demonstration of the hammer and hardie, traditional tools of mosaic making. Developed by the ancient Romans more than 2,000 years ago, they allow artists to hand cut glass and stone with precision, revealing the texture and depth that define handmade mosaics and link ancient traditions with contemporary art.
